UnScroll · Legal
Privacy Policy
Last updated 3 November 2026. This policy covers the UnScroll app for Android.
The short version
UnScroll works on your phone first. App-by-app screen time never leaves your device. We back up daily totals and your own activity records so your history survives a new phone and weekly scores can be checked fairly. UnScroll never reads what is on your screen, shows no ads, never sells data, and you can download or delete everything.
Who we are
UnScroll is made by Jogendra Singh, Urban Zamidar Group (“we”). Questions about this policy or your data, or a grievance: ijogendrajat@gmail.com.
What we collect and why
| Data | Why | Kept |
|---|---|---|
| Name, email address and profile photo from your Google account | Signing in (Google sign-in is the only way in) | Until you delete the account |
| Which apps you used and for how long, app by app | Screen-time insights and checking the limits you set | On your phone only, for 35 days |
| Your limits, schedules and temporary unlocks | Applying the rules you set | On your phone only |
| Time zone, language, onboarding answers (goals, interests, difficulties), your persona and targets | Building your plan and daily targets, and day boundaries | Until you delete the account |
| Daily totals: overall screen time, time on apps you chose to limit, time by category, activity and focus minutes, your daily score | Backup, insights on a new phone, and scores checked on our servers | About 13 months, then deleted automatically; at once if you delete your usage history or account |
| Activities you planned or completed, focus sessions, badges, long-term goals and challenge check-ins | Your history and achievements on every phone you use | Until you delete the account |
| If you join the weekly leaderboard: the public name and colour you choose, and your weekly score | Weekly ranking. Others never see your real name or email | Until you leave or delete the account; past weeks then show “Former member” |
| Notification registration (Firebase Installation ID), app version, notification choices and quiet hours | Sending notifications at a sensible local time | Until you sign out or delete the account |
| UnScroll Basic status and the Google Play purchase token, linked through an opaque account ID | Checking your subscription with Google Play (held on our servers only) | Until you delete the account; Google Play keeps its own payment records |
| Usage statistics: product events such as “a focus session was completed”, never app names or anything you typed | Understanding what to improve. You can switch this off | At most 14 months |
| Crash reports: what went wrong, device model and Android version | Fixing crashes. You can switch this off | 90 days |
| If you join the early-access test: your email address, in Firebase App Distribution | Sending your invitation and test versions | Until you leave the test or ask us to remove you |
What UnScroll never collects
Screen content, messages, keystrokes, passwords, contacts, location and advertising IDs. App-by-app usage never leaves your phone, and UnScroll has no advertising SDKs.
The permissions, in plain words
- Usage Access lets UnScroll read how long each app was in front, from Android's own records. It is processed on your phone; only daily totals are backed up.
- Accessibility service (only if you turn on app blocking) tells UnScroll which app has just come to the front, so it can show the Mindful Pause for apps you chose to limit. It reads only the app's name, cannot read text, passwords or messages, and stores nothing it sees.
- Notifications are used for reminders, eye-rest prompts and weekly results. Everything stays visible in the app without them.
Every permission is optional; UnScroll keeps working with fewer features. Revoke any of them in Android settings whenever you like.
Who processes it, and where
- Google Firebase: sign-in, your account's database and our servers (in Mumbai, India), notifications, usage statistics, crash reports and the early-access test.
- Google Play: payments for UnScroll Basic; we never see your card.
Data travels over encrypted connections. Database rules let only you read your account, and only our servers can change scores, rewards or your subscription status.
Your controls and rights
- In UnScroll, Profile → Privacy (or Settings → Privacy & data): download a copy of your data, delete your usage history, delete your account, and switch usage statistics and crash reports off.
- Signing out removes your data from that phone, including its offline copy of your account.
- Leave the leaderboard at any time.
Under India's Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023 you can access, correct and erase your data, nominate someone to act for you, and raise a grievance. You can also delete your account without the app: see Delete your account. If you're not satisfied with our answer, you can complain to the Data Protection Board of India. Cancel a subscription in Google Play.
